Panel description

Panel 1. Energy security: the EU policy and the strategy for Slovakia:
The energy security strategy of the SR in the context of the development of the Common EU Energy Policy and the energy security strategies of neighboring countries – Czech Republic and Austria. What are the energy security strategies of the SR, CR and Austria? To what extent are the priorities/approaches/planning of the national energy policies of the member countries identical or different? What influence does the development process of the common EU energy policy hold on them? What should/must we do on the EU level together, what should/must we do on the national level and what are the implications for the energy security of the SR?

Panel 2. Sustainable economic development and climatic changes:
The link between the economic development/growth of the SR and the requirement/ consumption of energy. How much and what kind of energy will Slovakia need to permanently sustain its economic growth – what are the scenarios for GDP growth rate and energy consumption in Slovakia? What “energy mix” does Slovakia need? What impact will the measures adopted on EU level in the efforts against climatic changes and specifically the goal to lower the consumption of primary energy sources by 20% by the year 2020 have on the economic growth of the SR? What has to be done in the EU and in Slovakia in the field of lowering the energy costs of the economy and lowering the consumption (industrial, service sector, household)? What are the perspectives of non-hydrocarbon and renewable energy sources?

Panel 3. Common EU external energy policy and the security of supplies:
The security of oil and natural gas shipments for the needs of the Slovak Republic and the EU in the context of the development of the common EU external energy policy. What are the possibilities of diversifying sources and supply routes of oil and natural gas for the needs of the SR? What are the perspectives of sustaining the position of the SR as an important transit country of oil and natural gas for the needs of the EU?

Panel 4. Competitiveness and the internal market:
The influence of the internal market of electric energy and natural gas in the EU on the trade and market of these commodities in Slovakia. What is the scenario for the further development of the common regulatory framework of network industries in the EU and Slovakia? What are the interests of market actors – suppliers and consumers? What needs to be done for the creation of a better corporate environment, the strengthening of the competitiveness on the market and what is/should be the role of the state and the regulatory office? What needs to be regulated on the EU level and what on the national level?
