Aims: The major aim of the expert conference held under the auspices of Rudolf Chmel, Slovakia’s Vice-Prime Minister for Human Rights, National Minorities and Gender Equality is to highlight feasible alternatives of peaceful co-existence among social groups, developed and experienced in the region of Central Europe.
The conference is divided into three thematic panels as well as an open public part and an expert session. The first panel Tolerance in Local and Historical Perspective focuses on key role of Central and East European countries for building of peaceful co-existence in the region. The second panel Contemporary Models of Tolerance aims to underline the need for strengthening human rights and minority rights as not only from normative perspective but also as actual autochthonous movements in the region and sources of functional integration of diverse populations. The social-economic and political effects of integration and cohabitation of ‘otherness’ shall be discussed through culturally sensitive lenses. Autochthonous plurality as well as otherness developed via recent migration would be the major topic for the discussion. The third panel Eastern Policy and Building of Tolerant Society intends to stress the key role of Visegrad countries in developing feasible policies towards Eastern neighbors of the EU, including models of cohabitation and civility.
In the discussion participants shall particularly bring alternative models of tolerance to be feasibly applicable in the region with regard to the increasing populist movements across Europe and its neighborhood.
